Screening of Crazywise at Ekskäret Klustret

Phil Borges - Director of Crazywise is visiting Sweden. The film is 1 hr and 20 minutes. After the film Phil Borges will speak about what he has learned since making the film as well as give time for discussion.

Crazy…or wise? There is a growing movement of mental health professionals who are concerned about how various psychoses are defined and treated in the West. The traditional wisdom of indigenous cultures is often quite different from our modern views, identifying what we term “psychotic” symptoms as an indicator of shamanic potential rather than as evidence of a brain that is somehow broken. In this documentary, human rights photographer and filmmaker Borges explores the mental health crisis in America, and interviews a variety of renowned professionals in the field. He discovers a growing group of individuals who are concerned about our biomedical psychiatric approach, and are instead demanding alternative treatments that focus on recovery, nurturing social connections and finding meaning.

'Crazywise' explores what can be learned from people around the world who have turned their psychological crises into a positive transformative experience.
